The Common Teeth Whitening Myths

Even after the years of modern technological advances in dentistry, there are still many myths regarding Tooth Whitening. A lot of these misconceptions can be traced back to when Tooth Whitening methods were in their early developmental stages were some results were bad, giving rise to the myths such as "'Teeth whitening will burn your gums" or "once the teeth are whitened I wont need to do any kind of maintenance" as well as many others!

The actual truth is far from all that. Teeth whitening has been carried out since the late 1980's and the results have been great to those who've undergone the procedure. Many of the common Tooth Whitening myths have been busted.

Here are some very widespread Tooth Whitening myths that have been busted:

Myth: Laser tooth whitening is the only professional Tooth Whitening system that really works.
Fact: Laser tooth whitening is one of the options available to dentists that offer the same results as teeth bleaching a.k.a. teeth whitening. Tray whitening is as affective as laser Whitening the only difference is the method chosen however, the end result will be the same.

Myth: Chemicals are the biggest danger when whitening teeth.
Fact: At the moment Tooth Whitening is the most safest and most moderate dental cosmetic procedure available. The main active agent inside the teeth whitening products is carbamide peroxide that is used by both, dental clinics and over the counter products (over the counter products are weaker in concentration). Carbamide peroxide has been proven to be safe for humans. Clinical data collected by the American Dental Association has shown that carbamide peroxide is safe and is an effective Whitening agent.

Myth: Once I undergo the procedure, my teeth will stay white for good.
Fact: For most people whitening is an on-going procedure that requires very little maintenance. Touch ups are Done every 6 months. It's also a good idea to avoid stain causing foods and drinks such as coffee, tobacco and red wines to make the results last as long as possible.

Myth: It will bleach my entire mouth.
Fact: The only thing inside the mouth that will whiten as a result of applying the teeth whitening agent is the teeth. Crowns, bonding, fillings, veneers and bridges stay the same. In some cases the user has undergone massive restorations, these people need to be extra careful when using any teeth whitening system as different parts may appear whiter then others.

Myth: People of all ages can whiten their teeth
Fact: The nerve chamber in children is very large, they may experience an increased sensitivity and are more likely to have problems. Brighter Smile does not recommend Whitening Gel for children.

Our Teeth whitening systems have been common in dentistry since the late 1980's. The procedure usually takes about 1 - 14 days to complete. The side effects are minimal - the most common side effect is tooth increased sensitivity to cold liquids. These symptoms will go away when whitening is completed.
